Introduction to November 2015

Welcome to November! We are entering into the holiday season, where people celebrate with family and friends, and of course people give of themselves and gifts to others just a bit more than the rest of the year. Except responders never seem to stop giving and serving. EVER.

This month we are looking at some amazing Volunteer efforts of our first responders on and off the clock! First, the fascinating history of the Firefighters and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), in The Legacy of George Graney. We introduce a new volunteer Organization that has had ENOUGH with the media devaluing, and in some cases misrepresenting facts about our brave men and women behind the badge, The Law Enforcement and Supporters for Media Accountability (LESMA). And we are bringing out the Tech! David Spitzer volunteers his time making “bionic” hands for children, with a 3D printer with his Aperta Manus foundation.

We also included some fun and unique (in our opinion anyway) ways to raise funds for your causes, agencies, charities. And we threw in an article on whether standing up a Non- profit Organization is right for your municipality. You would be very surprised at the places that already have them in place…

Take time to enjoy the turkey and family, whether on shift, day after, whatever your plans. And know that we all give thanks for you. Your service to the community. Your generosity. And your dedications to making lives better.

With warm regards,

Dawn
